25 ways to look fashionable everyday with minimal effort

We all want to look great every day. Don't we? However, not all of us have the time to follow the latest fashion trends and spend hours getting ready every day to look nice. It's just not worth the time for most of us. But, wouldn't it be awesome if there was a way you could look fashionable every day without having to put in too much time and effort?  I have put together 25 tips just for you, to help you out and make your life a little easier.

1. PLAN YOUR OUTFITS BEFOREHAND

This is the first tip because it goes a long way. You've probably heard this from your mother before but doing this saves a lot of time in the morning when you are deciding what to wear. Chances are, you are already running late in the morning and you end up wearing the first thing you see in your closet. In fact, spending 20 minutes every Sunday to pick out outfits for the entire week will save you so much time. You will thank yourself later.

    2. ALWAYS INVEST IN WELL FITTING CLOTHES

Don't buy something if it's a size too small or large. If you do own something that is a little too large for you, make sure you get it altered. Don't be lazy. Also ladies, the rule with jeans is 'Just because it zips, doesn't mean it fits'. Don't wear jeans that are too tight. It's not a good look. Making sure you're wearing well-fitted clothes makes you look a lot more put together than you think.

    3. Red lipstick is your best friend.

If you're in a hurry and don't have time to do your makeup (or if you're just lazy) , just put on some red lipstick. It instantly brightens up your look and makes it look like you put in a lot of effort when you actually just spent 30 seconds to put on lipstick. Note how adding red lipstick makes even a simple black on black outfit look so great.

    4. HEELS CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR LOOK.

Want to make your outfit look more dressy? Just replace the flats or shoes you'd normally wear with heels. Wearing heels instantly makes you look more fashionable, chic and put-together. Of course, don't wear heels if it hurts your feet of if you're going to have to take off your heels and walk barefoot later. Find heels that work for you. Wedges or Block heels are the best option if you can't walk in stilettos or pumps. These heels are also a great option for everyday wear because they're very comfortable.

    5. STOP WEARING JEANS EVERY SINGLE DAY

I know,  this is a hard one. Why would someone not wear jeans? Jeans are comfortable, it goes with almost any top and is easy maintenance, right? But try wearing culottes or palazzos or other kind of trousers instead of of your good old, probably over-used denims. It will instantly make you look more fashionable and makes it look like you spent a lot of time planning your outfit. Also, palazzos can be just as comfortable as your jeans.

    6. Monochrome Outfits.

Wearing black and white together is always a good idea. It's such a classic colour combination, it never goes out of style and it looks good on everyone.

    7. DON'T BUY SOMETHING IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT. (EVEN IF IT'S ON SALE!)

We are all guilty of this one. We tend to buy something we don't like very much just because it's on sale. We then end up never wearing it or cursing ourselves for buying it every single time we wear it. When you're buying something ask yourself if you actually like this particular piece and think of what you can wear it with. For example, if you are buying a skirt, think of what top you're going to wear with it. This way, you won't end up with clothes that you will never wear.

    8. INVEST IN CLASSIC CLOTHING PIECES.

Invest in some classic pieces like white T-shirts, white shirts, denims that fit you well, nude heels, a good jacket, etc.  ( We'll talk more about this in the next blog). These are the pieces that form the foundation of your closet and they never go out of style. Hence, make sure you invest some money and time on pieces like these instead of investing in something just because it's the latest fashion trend.

    9. KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE.

Always dress for your body type. Don't wear clothes that don't suit you or flatter your body. Make note of what looks good on you and what doesn't. Understand your body and dress accordingly.

    10. IF YOU'RE IN A HURRY, WEAR A DRESS.

A lot us of are under the impressions that dresses are for special occasions or for dressier events but that's not true at all. Dresses are a no-brainer. Wearing a dress means you don't have to worry about matching a top with bottoms. It's just one simple piece that you have to throw on and you're good to go!

    11. YOU DON'T HAVE TO MATCH EVERYTHING.

It honestly makes me cringe when someone matches their top, bag, accessories and even eye shadow. It makes you look like you're trying too hard when you do this. Instead, just match your bag to your shoes or something like that.  Always remember that it's important for the different elements of your outfit to complement each other. However, this does not mean that it all has to be the same color or worse, the same pattern.

    12. COLOR BLOCKING.

Colour blocking is when you combine contrasting colours in your outfit in bold blocks. There is just something about colour blocking that instantly steps up your entire look. This is why everybody in the fashion world seems to be obsessed with this fashion trick. Here are a few images to help you understand what exactly I mean.
    love the colors!

    13. FIND A HAIRSTYLE THAT WORKS FOR YOU.

Making sure that your hair looks nice can add so much to your look. When I say 'find a hairstyle that works for you', it doesn't have to be something fancy or over the top. I just mean, make sure you understand your hair and figure out how it looks the best. Once you figure this out, this can be your go-to hairstyle. It could just be a high ponytail or a top knot. Just know what works for you so you don't have any bad hair days!

    14. DON'T FOLLOW FASHION TRENDS IF YOU DON'T ACTUALLY LIKE THEM.

You've probably heard this one, too but I'm just going to say it because it's so important. Don't follow a fashion trend that you don't like because it shows when you're uncomfortable. You don't have to jump on a trend just because everybody else is doing it. Stay true to yourself and find your personal style. Moreover, a lot of these trends die very soon and it's not worth the money if you don't genuinely like it.

    15. INVEST IN TIMELESS ACCESSORIES THAT GOES WITH EVERYTHING.

Find that one watch that you can wear with everything or that one pair of hoop earrings or even a dainty necklace. Accessories like these never go out of style. Moreover, adding simple accessories adds a lot of oomph to your outfit. It's also so much easier to accessorize when you have a few pieces that you love.

    1. All black outfits.

Wearing black head to toe has been in trend for quite some time now and this fashion trend is definitely here to stay because it's so versatile. All black outfits are so powerful and it can make you look so put together if done right. Just don't overdo it (because nobody wants to look like a vampire).

    1. Make sure you have a few 'emergency outfits'.

When I say 'emergency outfits', I mean outfits that you can wear to a special occasion without having to go shopping.  You're lying if you say that you always know what to wear to a special occasion. Make sure you have a couple of outfits that you can wear to these fancy events so when an event pops up all of a sudden, you're prepared and know what to wear. This makes sure you don't have to do any last-minute shopping!

    18. DITCH THE T-SHIRT

This fashion tip goes a long way. Stop wearing plain T-shirts or graphic tees all the time. Yes, T-shirts are fun, comfortable and easy to wear but it's such a basic look. Especially if you're wearing it every day. Try wearing fun blouses, off-shoulder tops and tops that are made of flow-y fabrics. You can wear it with your trusty denims and you'll be just as comfortable. However, this look is a lot more fashionable than your 'T-shirt and jeans' outfit.

    19. DON'T BE A HOARDER.

Don't hold on to clothes that you probably won't wear in the future. We all hold on to clothes for various reasons. We hold on to clothes because we think they will come back in trend, or we're probably waiting to lose weight so we can fit into those old clothes again or we just don't know what to wear a particular clothing item with. The rule is, 'If you haven't worn it in the past year, you're probably never going to wear it again' This means that it's time to sell, dispose or donate these items. This is going to free up a lot of space in your closet for the clothes that you actually like and you won't feel like 'I have so many clothes but nothing to wear'

    20. ALWAYS PRESS/ IRON YOUR CLOTHES.

This is honestly something that all of us already know. Yet, sometimes we to choose to wear clothes that aren't pressed/ ironed and we walk out the door looking like we are wearing an wearing an over-used plastic bag. Don't do that. Press/ iron/ steam iron your clothes. It takes literally two minutes and it makes a huge difference. Wearing clothes that are wrinkled just makes you look shabby and that's not how you want to look. Do you?

    1. Add a pop of color

Wearing neutral tones and just having one piece in your outfit that adds a pop of colour ( a bag, a pair of shoes, a scarf etc) is such a great look. It instantly makes your outfit a lot more interesting and fun. It's also great to add a pop of colour to an all-black or an all-white outfit.

    22. GET YOUR DENIMS OR TROUSERS ALTERED.

When you buy a pair of trousers or a pair of jeans and you realize that it's too long for you (this is a common problem if you are a short person),don't just fold it. Get it altered. It doesn't take much time and it makes you look a lot more classy. It completely ruins your look when you fold your pants because it's too long or even when you just add a belt to a pair of jeans that's a little too big for you.

    23. DON'T WEAR ANYTHING THAT YOU'RE UNCOMFORTABLE IN.

It shows when you're not comfortable in something that you're wearing. Don't wear that pair of heels if it kills you. Don't wear a skirt if it makes you feel uncomfortable all day. It's so important to be confident with your look. You can't carry something off if you're uncomfortable.

    24. A WELL FITTING JACKET IS YOUR BEST FRIEND.

Here's why jackets are so great :
    • it keeps you warm when it's cold
    • adding a jacket to your basic 'denims and T-shirt outfit' changes the entire look
    • jackets are such great layering pieces.
This is why it's so important to have a few basic jackets. Event a denim jacket can completely elevate your look and take it to the next level.  Here are a few examples of how a jacket can transform a basic outfit :
casual style addiction : denim jacket + stripped top + pants + sneakers

    25. DON'T IGNORE YOUR NAILS.

It is said that you can say a lot about a woman when you look at her nails and it is true for the most part. I'm not asking you to go in for a mani-pedi session every week or have super long nails ( unless you like doing these things). All I'm trying to say is, make sure you are well groomed. If you do have the time, try changing your nail paint one a week or once in two weeks. If you have chipped nail paint, take the whole thing off. It's better to have bare nails than to have nails with chipped nail paint.  Try using gel nail polish. It lasts at least two weeks. This way, you don't have to spend too much time painting and taking care of your nails.
